Hyderabad: Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit (HZU), arrested a passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport after a Gold seizure worth ₹2.37 crore. The passenger had arrived from Kuwait via Sharjah on Air Arabia flight G9 467 on October 16, 2024.
A detailed baggage check revealed five 24-karat gold bars and two cut pieces of gold, weighing 1,798 grams in total. Officials said the passenger hid the bars inside the door’s metallic lock. The two cut pieces were found inside a pouch of sunflower seeds.
DRI Gold seizure worth ₹2.37 crore at Hyderabad airport
The DRI confirmed the Gold seizure was of foreign origin. Officers seized the smuggled gold along with the concealment material under the Customs Act, 1962. They arrested the passenger immediately.
Investigators are tracing others linked to the smuggling attempt.
