Hyderabad: Heavy traffic congestion was reported on all major highways leading into Hyderabad on Sunday as thousands of people returned to the city after the Dussehra holidays. The Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway was the worst affected due to Dussehra return traffic, with long queues of vehicles stretching for several kilometres.
The rush began early in the morning and grew heavier by evening. Cars, RTC buses, and private vehicles moved bumper to bumper, causing delays near key junctions such as Choutuppal, Chityal, and the Patangi toll plaza. These areas recorded the highest traffic volumes during the day.
Vijayawada highway choked as holiday crowd returns
RTC and private buses were packed with passengers heading back from their hometowns. Consequently, vehicle movement slowed down sharply at several entry points into the city due to Dussehra return traffic.
Meanwhile, the traffic police launched coordinated efforts to ease congestion. Additional personnel were deployed at busy stretches to streamline movement and prevent bottlenecks. Officials also used real-time monitoring to manage diversions where necessary.
In addition, the police advised commuters to stay calm and cooperate with traffic teams to avoid further delays. They urged drivers to maintain lane discipline and follow directions issued at control points.
