Hyderabad: Heavy rains that lashed Hyderabad in the early hours of Thursday left several key roads in Serilingampally completely submerged, throwing daily life and traffic out of gear. Low-lying areas were quickly inundated as floodwaters gushed through major stretches.
The worst-hit spot was near the Serilingampally Railway Underpass, where water levels rose sharply, cutting off traffic from both sides of the bridge. With the underpass flooded, traffic movement in and around Papireddy Colony came to a grinding halt, leaving residents stranded. Schoolchildren, college students, and office-goers struggled to reach their destinations on time as waterlogged streets slowed down movement across the area.
Neighbouring areas like Tara Nagar and Papireddy Colony were also hit by heavy waterlogging, making life difficult for residents and motorists. With floodwaters submerging key stretches of road, traffic came to a complete halt, causing long backups.
The situation wasn’t any better along the busy Lingampally–Mehdipatnam main road, where water pooled heavily. Near the petrol pump close to Doyens Colony, the flooding rose to knee level, forcing authorities to stop traffic along the arterial route.
RC Puram traffic police have been working to clear the congestion, while HYDRA and traffic personnel have diverted IT employees and other commuters travelling from Lingampally towards the Gachibowli-Madhapur IT corridor through alternative routes.
