Hyderabad: Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender on Friday staged a sit-in protest along with BJP corporators outside the Water Board office, demanding immediate completion of underground drainage and SNDP works in Hyderabad.

Addressing the gathering, Rajender insisted that all pending works should be wrapped up before the onset of the monsoon to prevent a crisis. He also demanded that drinking water be supplied to double bedroom houses as promised.

Warning of larger protests if fresh water supply issues in the suburban areas are not resolved within two months, Rajender said, “We will not remain silent while people suffer.”

Later, Rajender and a team of corporators met with the Water Board Managing Director to press their demands. Speaking to the media, he accused the authorities of neglecting residents’ concerns.

“Despite making repeated representations over the past 18 months, not a single rupee has been sanctioned for water supply works,” he lamented. “They are telling people to arrange their own pipes while collecting taxes and failing to provide facilities.”

Highlighting the dire condition of sewage management, Rajender pointed to untreated waste flowing openly on the streets. “If this is the situation now, what will happen when it rains heavily?” he questioned, urging the immediate clearing of silted pipes and the expansion of sewage canals to avoid flooding in low-lying areas.

He also urged the Water Board to take steps to prevent water stagnation and protect residents from waterborne diseases.

Criticising the state’s flagship Mission Bhagiratha project, Rajender said, “Even after spending Rs. 50,000 crore, the people of Hyderabad still struggle to get fresh water.”

He accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of prioritising political meetings over addressing citizens’ problems. “The Chief Minister doesn’t seem to have time to discuss these issues,” he charged.
