Hyderabad: The famous Edupayala Vanadurga temple in Medak district remained under floodwaters for the third consecutive day, forcing officials to shift the festival idol to the Rajagopuram for rituals and darshan. Priests performed abhishekam and special alankaram before allowing devotees limited access.
Flood discharge from Singur’s Nakka vagu brought nearly 25,000 cusecs into the Vanadurga anicut, causing heavy overflow. Water gushed past the Rajagopuram near the sanctum, inundating the temple premises.

Police outpost staff erected barricades and restricted the entry of devotees towards the anicut and temple surroundings as a precaution. “Regular darshan will be restored once the flood intensity subsides,” temple executive officer Chandrasekhar said.
Meanwhile, irrigation department executive engineer Shiva Nagaraju warned farmers in the Manjeera river catchment to stay alert and advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the waters until conditions eased.
