Vijawayada: A tragic incident unfolded in Andhra Pradesh’s Konaseema district on Monday when eight youths drowned in the Godavari River while bathing near Kaminilanka in Mummidivaram mandal.
According to reports, a group of 11 youngsters entered the river for a bath, unaware of the deep waters in the area. While three managed to swim back to safety, eight were swept away and remain untraced. Rescue efforts are currently underway.
The group had reportedly travelled from K.Gangavaram mandal’s Shurullanka village to attend a wedding in the area.
The missing have been identified as Kranti, Paul, Sai, Satish, Mahesh, Rajesh, Rohit, and another Mahesh residents of Kakinada, Ramachandrapuram, and Mandapeta.
Elaborate search operations have been launched by the local authorities, along with police and rescue teams, using boats and divers. The families of the missing have been informed.
