Hyderabad: The Election Commission has begun groundwork for Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) polls in Telangana, issuing orders to district collectors to verify polling personnel data ahead of the long-pending sarpanch elections.
Collectors have been asked to re-examine the list of returning officers, assistant returning officers, presiding officers, and other staff registered earlier this year in February. Officials were also directed to compile complete polling data across districts, revenue divisions, mandals, panchayats, and wards.
With village administration in the hands of special officers for over a year due to the absence of elected sarpanches, the state government has prioritised MPTC elections as the first step toward restoring local governance. Following the MPTC polls, authorities are expected to conduct sarpanch elections in sequence.
Officials indicated that a formal schedule for the panchayat elections may be released soon.
