Hyderabad: What started as a squabble over an electricity bill ended with blood on the floor in New Bowenpally’s Seetharampuram area, where a daily-wage worker was allegedly stabbed by his neighbour during a heated argument.
According to SI Nagendra Babu, Ravinder Kumar Maurya—originally from Uttar Pradesh—had been renting a portion of a house with his wife and family for the past four years. Six months ago, Bikas, a cook from Bihar, moved into the adjacent portion. Both rented units share a single power meter.
Following the owner’s arrangement, the two tenants split the monthly electricity bill. But this summer’s spike in usage triggered friction.
Bikas, who lives alone and claims to be out for work most of the time, reportedly refused to pay half the bill this time. Instead, he visited Ravinder’s house multiple times while he was away, asking Ravinder’s wife, Seema Maurya, to settle the matter.
That didn’t sit well with Ravinder.
When confronted, Ravinder accused Bikas of crossing a line by approaching his wife in his absence. The argument boiled over. In the heat of the moment, Bikas allegedly pulled out a knife and slashed Ravinder on the arm and leg.
A case has been registered following the victim’s complaint, and police have launched a probe.
