Hyderabad: On the anniversary of the 1975 Emergency, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay launched a scathing attack on the Congress party and the legacy of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, calling the Emergency a day when democracy was buried under authoritarian rule.
Taking to social media platform X, Sanjay stated that June 25 marked the beginning of one of the darkest chapters in India’s democratic history. He said the imposition of Emergency was driven by a lust for power that plunged the entire country into darkness.
He accused the then Congress government of mocking the Constitution and trampling on civil liberties, labelling the Emergency as an act of tyranny forced upon the nation.
Sanjay paid tribute to those who resisted the Emergency and were imprisoned for defending constitutional values. He reaffirmed his commitment to continue fighting for the protection of democracy in the country.
