Hyderabad: Protests over urea shortage continued across Telangana on Friday as farmers staged demonstrations demanding sufficient supply of fertiliser. At several centres, farmers said they waited in long queues for hours but failed to secure urea.
In Warangal district’s Raiparthi mandal headquarters, farmers held a dharna over the shortage. Former minister and BRS leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao visited the protest site and extended support. He joined the farmers in their sit-in agitation, raising slogans against the Congress government.
Tension as police arrest former minister
Police intervened after crowds swelled at the protest venue. They arrested Errabelli Dayakar Rao while he sat with the farmers, leading to tense scenes. Farmers resisted the arrest, and a brief scuffle broke out between protesters and the police.
Authorities shifted Errabelli to Raiparthi police station. Meanwhile, farmers raised slogans against the state government, accusing it of failing to supply adequate fertiliser on time.
The agitation added to growing pressure on the Revanth Reddy government, with farmers across the state demanding uninterrupted urea supply during the peak crop season.
