HYDERABAD: Former Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao has made a candid revelation, stating that he anticipated his defeat in the recent legislative assembly elections six months in advance. Despite his foresight, he chose to contest following encouragement from former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).
Speaking at a meeting with party workers in Velikatta on Friday, Thorrur Mandal, Mahabubabad district, Errabelli expressed confidence that if elections were held immediately, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) would secure at least 100 seats. He also claimed that 25 Congress MLAs have been secretly meeting to discuss opposition against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
Errabelli alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has not granted an appointment to Revanth Reddy for the past six months. He further claimed that Gandhi planned a surprise visit to Warangal to assess the government’s performance, but Revanth Reddy intervened and had the visit cancelled, fearing exposure of administrative failures.
Criticising the current administration, Errabelli stated that while KCR governed the state with vision for a decade, the Congress has led it to bankruptcy in just 15 months. He accused Congress leaders, including Revanth Reddy and his associates, of engaging in corruption and postponing local elections due to fear of defeat.
Errabelli Dayakar Rao has a notable political history, having achieved a double hat-trick by winning consecutively three times from both Vardhannapeta and Palakurthi constituencies. He also served as the Warangal MP after winning a by-election in 2008. In 2016, he joined the BRS and served as a minister in KCR’s second government. However, in the 2023 elections, he was defeated by Congress candidate Mamidala Yashaswi.
