Ethics, responsibility and sustainability key to India’s corporate future: Governor Varma

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Friday said ethics, responsibility and sustainability form the foundation of India’s corporate future, stressing that development without sustainability holds no value.

Speaking at the valedictory of “Corporate Governance Conference – 2025 (CORPCON 2025)” at NALSAR University’s Justice City campus, the Governor called on students and professionals to embrace sustainable practices. The two-day event was jointly organised by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and NALSAR.

Varma described the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (2016) as a landmark reform that restored accountability and strengthened creditor confidence. He urged participants to take cues from indigenous communities and adopt lifestyles in harmony with nature.

NALSAR Vice Chancellor Prof. Srikrishna Deva Rao, in his address, emphasised the importance of sustainability in education. He encouraged students to align their learning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also introduced the new IBL Master’s Program at NALSAR.

Prof. P. Srinivasa Subba Rao presented a detailed conference report, highlighting the key discussions and contributions.

ICSI representatives CS R. Venkata Ramana and CS B. Narsimhan addressed the participants on responsible corporate behaviour. Ramana announced fee waivers for Company Secretary aspirants from the Northeast and stressed the need for collective environmental responsibility.

The event concluded by reinforcing the relevance of ethical business practices, sustainable models, and civilizational values in guiding India’s corporate evolution.
