Hyderabad: A 21-year-old youth suffered serious injuries after a group of men claiming to be Excise Enforcement Officers attacked him in Jeedimetla late Saturday night.
The attack took place near Ayodhya Nagar junction in the Kutbullapur area. The suspects stopped a group of young men, accusing them of smoking ganja. Without showing any IDs, they began beating them.
When Chanti Yadav tried to question the group, one of the attackers slashed his face, ear, and head with a surgical blade. The assault left him bleeding heavily. Locals rushed Yadav to Ajuda Hospital, where doctors gave him 22 stitches across his face and scalp.
Soon after, both parties those posing as officials and the victims filed complaints at Jeedimetla Police Station. Police have opened a case and are verifying whether the attackers were real officers or impersonators.
The use of a surgical blade and the lack of official identification have raised fears about fake enforcement activity in the area. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence to confirm the attackers’ identities.
