Hyderabad: Fake currency circulation came to light in Bhongir town on Monday after a local shopkeeper was duped of ₹11,000.
According to police, Pallera Nagendra Babu, a resident of Kilanagar, runs a mobile shop in Bhongir. Around 11:30 a.m., an unidentified man approached him claiming he needed to transfer money to his relatives through PhonePe.
Nagendra Babu used his PhonePe account to send the amount to the number provided by the man, who in return handed him ₹11,000 in cash. On later verification, the shopkeeper discovered that the notes were counterfeit.
Realising he had been cheated, Nagendra Babu lodged a complaint with the police, seeking action against the fraudster. Police registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the accused.
