Hyderabad: A self-proclaimed doctor operating a fertility scam in Shadnagar has been accused of defrauding couples by promising guaranteed birth of a baby boy through unscientific treatment.
Identified as Shivlingam, the man ran a clinic under the name Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Clinic in Chowdaryguda, offering bogus fertility services targeting couples desperate for male children. A single injection could ensure a male child, he claimed and insisted on tests at specific diagnostic centres, refusing treatment otherwise.
Shivlingam allegedly charged ₹34,000 per couple, demanding ₹15,000 upfront. Once paid, he would mislead patients about pregnancy timelines and continue treatment even when pregnancy was unlikely.
In several cases, when female children were born, Shivlingam blamed the parents for not following his diet plans or missing appointments. His tactics came to light when victims sought second opinions and discovered that he held only a BAMS degree from an unrecognised Karnataka university, with no qualifications to offer IVF treatment.
Couples allege he used fake certificates and had no clinical experience, yet had been operating for over 15 years. Local residents and victims are demanding strict action.
Health experts clarified that the sex of a foetus cannot be predicted or altered before conception, and any such claims are fraudulent. Police have warned the public not to fall for such scams.
