Hyderabad: A family from Mylaram in Rayaparthi mandal returned a body to the MGM Hospital mortuary on Friday, alleging that it was not the remains of their relative and blaming police for a body mix-up.

Kumaraswamy, 55, a construction worker from Velikatte in Thorrur mandal, Mahabubabad district, had been living separately from his wife Ramaku following a prolonged struggle with alcoholism. The couple, who have a daughter, had earlier worked in Surat before returning to Telangana.

On July 9, Kumaraswamy was injured while working near the Warangal-Khammam National Highway and was admitted to MGM Hospital in Warangal by the local police. His condition worsened and he died late Thursday.

After being informed by the police, his wife identified the body at the hospital. A panchnama was completed and the body was kept in the hospital mortuary. On Friday, the police handed over the body to the family, who took it to Mylaram.

Upon seeing the body again, the family claimed it was not Kumaraswamy and returned it to MGM Hospital. They accused police of negligence in handing over the wrong remains.

Medical officers at MGM stated that their responsibility was limited to receiving the body post-panchnama and conducting necessary procedures, while identifying and handing over the body was under police jurisdiction.

The whereabouts of Kumaraswamy’s actual body remain unknown.
