Hyderabad, February 4: A couple in Begumpet attempted suicide on Tuesday after being allegedly defrauded by loan agents in a property deal. The incident took place in Prakash Nagar, under the Begumpet police station limits.
According to Inspector Ramayya, B. Anasuya and her husband Bharat Bhushan had sought a loan to fund their daughter’s wedding. They approached two agents, Bhanu Prakash and Shafi, who helped them secure Rs 7 lakh in 2019. As part of the process, they were asked to mortgage their house, and registration was completed in the names of Dinakar and Rajini.
The couple repaid Rs 15,000 monthly EMIs, but the agents allegedly used the house papers to secure an additional Rs 40 lakh loan from a bank. When they failed to repay, the bank issued notices and arrived to seize the property on Tuesday, accompanied by police and lawyers.
In a desperate move, Anasuya and Bhushan locked themselves inside and poured oil over their bodies, attempting self-immolation. The police intervened in time and negotiated a temporary settlement, granting them three days to arrange payments. A case has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing.
