HYDERABAD: Financial distress and mounting debts pushed a farmer couple from Adilabad’s Neredukonda mandal to attempt suicide.
The incident occurred in Vadur village, where Aadepu Poshetty (60) and his wife Indira (52) consumed pesticides in a desperate act. While Poshetty succumbed, Indira is currently undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital in critical condition.
The couple owned three acres of farmland and had recently cultivated cotton and red gram. However, crop losses combined with the government’s unfulfilled loan waiver promises left them struggling. Their total debt had reportedly reached Rs 2.3 lakh.
Local sources revealed that apart from their farming losses, the couple had recently spent a significant amount on the weddings of their two daughters and the construction of a new house. The financial strain became overwhelming, leading to this tragic incident.
