Hyderabad: Protests broke out in Gadwal on Wednesday as farmers waited in vain outside the local cooperative society office for urea. Despite active monsoon conditions, a critical shortage of fertilizer left many unable to get more than one bag per person. Agitated farmers staged a road protest in front of the DSP’s office.
BRS leaders extended support to the protesting farmers, accusing the Congress government of mishandling urea distribution. BRS Gadwal in-charge Basu Hanumanthu Naidu said the state was failing its farmers by not supplying adequate urea during peak crop demand. He alleged that the government was diverting stocks to the black market and blamed it for not fulfilling promises like Rythu Bandhu and farm loan waivers.
Naidu claimed that during the BRS regime, farmers had timely access to urea and crop inputs every season, but now face delays and distress. Several farmers alleged they had been waiting for days with no support from authorities, accusing the administration of neglect.
However, local Congress MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy dismissed the allegations. He said the government had already supplied urea as per district needs and submitted requests for additional stock. He added that heavy rains over the past three days had slowed transport from wagons and assured that steps were underway to resolve the issue in coordination with agriculture officials.
