Hyderabad: Farmers in Suryapet district continued to face severe hardship in securing urea, forcing them to abandon field work for weeks and stand in long queues outside cooperative societies.
At Atmakur mandal’s Epur Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS), hundreds of farmers lined up on Monday after hearing that urea stocks had arrived. Many reached the society office before dawn to ensure supply. Despite heavy rainwater flooding the premises, the farmers waited in long lines, determined not to lose their chance.
Suryapet urea shortage leaves farmers struggling
For nearly 25 days, farmers said they had set aside agricultural work to chase urea supplies. They alleged that while the previous BRS government ensured steady stock, the current Congress administration had left them struggling to procure fertiliser at the peak of the cropping season.
The shortage has disrupted agricultural schedules in several mandals, with farmers claiming that the lack of timely fertiliser threatens to affect crop yield.
