Hyderabad: A three-year-old boy reported missing in Bandlaguda was found murdered by his father, who was arrested by police on Tuesday.
On September 13, Sana Begum of Noori Nagar complained to Bandlaguda police that her son Mohammed Anas had disappeared. Police registered a kidnap case and started investigation.
Father arrested for Bandlaguda child murder
During the probe, officers grew suspicious of the boy’s father, Mohammed Akbar, 37, a vegetable vendor from Noori Nagar. After sustained questioning, Akbar admitted he killed his son following frequent disputes with his wife.
According to police, Akbar smothered Anas with a pillow during the early hours of September 13. He then stuffed the body into a gunny bag, tied it with rope, carried it on his vehicle, and dumped it into the Musi River from Nayapul Bridge.
Investigators relied on his confession and CCTV footage to confirm the crime. With support from DRF and HYDRA teams, police launched a search in the Musi to recover the child’s body.
Officers altered the case from kidnap to murder and evidence destruction. On September 16, they arrested Akbar and produced him before court for judicial custody.
Police also disclosed that Akbar had a violent history. Earlier, Narasingi police booked him in a murder case after a victim resisted his sexual advances.
The investigation took place under South East Zone DCP S. Chaitanya Kumar and ACP A. Sudhakar. They praised Inspector R. Devender and his Bandlaguda team for quickly solving the case.
