NEW YORK: A massive fire broke out at a Buddhist temple in the Bronx, New York, leading to the deaths of three people, including a Buddhist monk. The incident occurred around 6 AM on Wednesday, also affecting two nearby residential buildings, according to police officials.
Authorities reported that the fire was caused by clothes left too close to a room heater, which overheated and ignited the materials. At the time of the incident, a Buddhist monk was praying under the staircase. Upon noticing the fire, he alerted others and helped evacuate several people.
However, three individuals were unable to escape and lost their lives in the flames. Officials stated that the fire spread rapidly, engulfing the temple and the adjacent residential buildings.
