Hyderabad: Cases have been registered in Jagtial and Warangal districts following graphic videos of animal sacrifice cruelty involving goats that circulated on social media platforms.
The footage, which drew widespread condemnation, showed men killing goats by biting and violently twisting their necks during religious rituals. The incidents took place in Chinna Metpalli village, Jagtial district, and near Bodrai in Khila Warangal.
Intervention came after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India escalated the matter, acting in coordination with Kotala Sri Vidhya from the Stray Animal Foundation of India (SAFI), Hyderabad. Former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi also supported the complaint effort.
Based on their joint representation, Korutla Police in Jagtial filed an FIR against one Neelam Rakesh under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Telangana Animals and Birds Sacrifices Prohibition (TABSP) Act. A second FIR was filed at AJ Mills Colony Police Station in Warangal against an unidentified person involved in the second incident.
PETA India’s Cruelty Response Coordinator, Virendra Singh, acknowledged the swift support from Maneka Gandhi and commended Telangana Police for taking legal action, saying it reaffirmed a zero-tolerance approach toward animal abuse.
