Hyderabad: Five Bangladeshi women escaped from police custody at a women’s police station in the Old City after being detained in a prostitution case late Saturday night.
Central Crime Station (CCS) Special Police had earlier conducted targeted raids in parts of the Old City based on credible intelligence about organised sex work operations. The five women, all Bangladeshi nationals, were apprehended during these raids from identified brothels.
They were brought to the South Zone’s women’s police station on Saturday night, with plans to produce them before a magistrate on Sunday morning. However, the detainees evaded custody overnight and escaped from the premises without alerting the officers on duty.
Officials are reviewing CCTV footage from the station to figure out how the women managed to escape noticed. Early reports suggest security at the station wasn’t as tight as it should’ve been, and internal procedures may have been ignored. Senior officials have already been briefed on the escape.
According to sources, disciplinary action is on the table for staff who may have dropped the ball. A full-scale investigation is now in motion—not just to track down the escapees, but also to figure out if they had any help from the outside.
