Hyderabad: Continuous rains in Telangana and upstream regions pushed reservoirs to the brim, forcing authorities to lift gates across major Telangana dams. Heavy inflows were recorded at Nagarjunasagar, Sriramsagar, Sripada Ellampalli, and Kaleshwaram, while the Godavari swelled at Bhadrachalam.
At Nagarjunasagar, officials lifted 26 crest gates to discharge 4.06 lakh cusecs, against inflows of 10 lakh cusecs. The reservoir stored 294.55 TMC out of its full capacity of 312.04 TMC.
Sriramsagar reported 2.75 lakh cusecs inflow. To manage the surge, 39 gates were raised, releasing 4.03 lakh cusecs. Water level touched 1,089 feet against the full level of 1,091 feet.
At Sripada Ellampalli, 40 gates were opened to discharge over 5.17 lakh cusecs, as Sriramsagar outflows rushed in. Kaleshwaram received 6.65 lakh cusecs and released an equal volume downstream. Sammakka Sagar barrage filled to 82.60 metres against its full level of 83 metres.
In Bhadrachalam, the Godavari touched 43 feet, prompting the first flood warning. Devotees were advised not to enter the river for bathing rituals.
