Hyderabad: Heavy rainfall in catchment areas triggered massive inflows into Himayat Sagar on Thursday, peaking at 17,500 cusecs by 9 a.m., prompting the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to issue two successive flood warnings and lift eight of its 17 gates.
At 6:30 a.m., the reservoir was receiving 700 cusecs, rising to 17,000 cusecs by 7:30 a.m. and 17,500 cusecs by 9 a.m. The released floodwater is flowing into the Musi River. Inflows are sourced from upstream villages in the Gandipet catchment such as Chevella, Vikarabad, Shankarpally, Mominpally, and Dobi Peta. The Esi River, fed by rainfall in Andapur, Kotwal Peta, Narkuda, Tandur, and Moinabad, also contributes to Himayat Sagar’s volume.
