Hyderabad: Continuous heavy rains have swollen rivers across Telangana, forcing officials to issue multiple flood warnings. At Kaleshwaram in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, the Pranahita and Godavari rivers joined in massive flow, raising alarm among authorities.
The Triveni Sangamam registered a water level of 12.800 meters, prompting a first-level danger warning. Inflows at the Kaleshwaram project touched a season-high 10,43,840 cusecs.
Major Rivers in Full Spate
At Bhadrachalam, the Godavari touched 48 feet by Wednesday night, leading to the issue of a second-level warning. Pilgrims were barred from accessing the bathing ghats near the Ramalayam temple.
In the Krishna basin, inflows into the Srisailam reservoir forced the lifting of ten crest gates to 18 feet. At Nagarjunasagar, 20 of 26 gates were raised by 13 feet and six by 10 feet.
Mulugu district faced severe disruption as the Godavari flowed at 57.20 feet near Peruru. National Highway 163 at Regumakugandi was submerged, cutting connectivity between Telangana and Chhattisgarh.
Authorities evacuated 34 people from 15 families in Wazeedu after floodwaters entered houses and prayer halls. At Eturunagaram’s Ramannagudem, water levels rose to 16 meters, triggering a second flood warning.
