Hyderabad: Police seized banned foreign cigarettes worth ₹10.7 lakh from a godown in Akbarbagh and arrested one person in a joint operation by the South East Zone Task Force and Chaderghat police.
According to police, Mohammed Faizal, 31, of Troop Bazaar, Nampally, was running the illegal cigarette trade from his residence in Farah Colony, Saidabad. He had set up a warehouse in Akbarbagh where he stocked branded foreign cigarettes sourced from a Delhi-based supplier named Rahul.
The cigarettes were being sold at inflated prices to pan shops and grocery outlets across the city. Acting on specific information, police raided the godown, detained Faizal, and confiscated the contraband. Officials said the seized cigarettes were of brands banned under Indian law.
