Hyderabad: The immersion of Ganesh idols continued across Greater Hyderabad on Sunday, with more than 2,61,333 idols immersed by the afternoon. The annual exercise, taking place after the Ganesh festivities, is being monitored by civic and police officials.
According to reports, immersion counts varied across zones. LB Nagar accounted for 35,994 idols, Charminar 22,304, Khairatabad 63,019, Serilingampally 41,360, Kukatpally 62,405, and Secunderabad 36,251 idols. The large-scale Ganesh idol immersion has created pressure on traffic and public transport routes.
Metro usage rises amid immersion traffic
With traffic restrictions in place, metro stations along the LB Nagar–Miyapur corridor witnessed heavy passenger rush. Commuters turned to metro trains to avoid congestion on city roads. LB Nagar metro station was particularly crowded as devotees and regular passengers relied on the service.
Officials said the immersion process would continue through the day until all registered idols were immersed.
