Hyderabad: The Ganesh laddu auction has moved far beyond Balapur’s historic bidding tradition. What started in Hyderabad has now spread globally, attracting spirited participation from Telugu diaspora communities.
This year’s landmark was in Rajendranagar, where a laddu fetched ₹2.32 crore at Richmond Villas. The amount far surpassed last year’s ₹1.87 crore, showing the rising fervour of devotees.
Ganesh laddu auction crosses boundaries
In Canada, Scarborough Telugu Association held a 10 kg laddu auction that closed at $18,116 (₹15.1 lakh). Additional auctions in Oakville, Mississauga, Barrie, and Milton touched $10,000 (₹8.3 lakh).
Bangkok saw the Telugu Association of Thailand auction a laddu for 21,000 baht (₹48,000). In Melbourne, the Telugu NRI Association’s bidding peaked at A$4,694 (₹2.55 lakh).
Meanwhile, Hyderabad’s residential communities have turned auctions into an annual tradition. My Home Bhuj in Raidurg sold a laddu for ₹51.07 lakh, My Home Avatar in Financial District for ₹8.10 lakh, Kondapur’s Meekshi Sky Lounge for ₹14 lakh, and Narsingi’s Vesella Meadows for ₹11.11 lakh.
The Ganesh laddu auction has become both a devotional ritual and a community showcase. Analysts note it also strengthens diaspora identity, linking devotees abroad with roots in Telangana.
