160 ganja plants seized in Adilabad; accused remanded

Hyderabad: Adilabad rural police, in a major crackdown on illegal cannabis cultivation, seized 160 ganja plants from agricultural fields in Ashoda village on Wednesday. The estimated market value of the seized plants is ₹16 lakh. Police arrested the accused and sent him to judicial remand.

Adilabad DSP L. Jeevan Reddy, while revealing the details, said police acted on credible information. They raided farmland where the accused had discreetly planted ganja among cotton and pigeon pea crops. The accused, Mishram Bhujangarao (20), son of Jangu, is a resident of Ashoda village in Adilabad rural mandal.

Ganja plants seized in Adilabad under NDPS Act

Police registered a case under Crime No. 329/2025, u/s 8(b) r/w 20(b)(1) of the NDPS Act. The seized ganja plants ranged from three to seven feet in height. Specifically, they found six plants at 3 ft, 40 at 4 ft, 107 at 5 ft, six at 6 ft, and one plant at 7 ft—totaling 160.

According to DSP Jeevan Reddy, the action followed direct instructions from Adilabad SP Akhil Mahajan, IPS. The district police are enforcing a strict no-tolerance policy toward ganja cultivation, trafficking, and consumption. He further added that those booked under the NDPS Act may lose access to government welfare schemes. The department will send relevant reports to the District Collector.

SP Mahajan praised the swift action of Adilabad Rural CI K. Phani Dhar, SI Vishnuvardhan, and constables Mangal Singh, Vital, and Suresh. The team uprooted the plants and completed legal procedures before remanding the accused.
