Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched an extensive anti-larvae campaign across more than 15,500 colonies in July to combat the mosquito menace during the monsoon season.
Acting on the instructions of GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, field teams inspected 34.45 lakh households multiple times. Officials identified mosquito larvae in 1.5% of houses. Simultaneously, they examined over 1.10 crore containers, confirming larvae presence in 0.5% of them.
Thousands of personnel are engaged in these efforts, targeting dengue, malaria, and chikungunya prevention through field surveillance and public engagement.
GHMC teams distributed precautionary pamphlets door-to-door and conducted awareness drives on mosquito-borne diseases. The campaign included IRS spray education sessions in 1,700 schools and 320 colleges.
Commissioner Karnan is monitoring daily operations and reviewing execution gaps. He has directed officials to step up preventive actions as part of a preemptive strategy to reduce infections during the rainy season.
GHMC officials reported a visible decline in insect-borne illnesses this year, attributing it to the advance planning and intensified ground-level action.
