Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner R V Karnan on Wednesday directed officials to take immediate measures to prevent flooding in low-lying areas following recent heavy rains in the city.
Karnan, accompanied by Yakutpura MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj, inspected flood-prone localities under the Santosh Nagar circle in the Charminar zone. The inspection followed complaints of waterlogging after the rains.
During the visit, the Commissioner instructed the maintenance chief engineer to immediately pump out accumulated rainwater in affected areas. He asked the engineering department to draw up a comprehensive plan for long-term solutions to control stormwater flow and prevent future inundation.
Karnan emphasised the need for both short-term and permanent flood mitigation strategies to ensure public safety and urban resilience.
Officials who participated in the inspection included Zonal Commissioner Venkanna, Zonal SE Maheshwar Reddy, Deputy Commissioner Mangatayaru, Chief Engineer Sahadev Ratnakar, Project EE Srinivas, and area corporator Wasiuddin.
