Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan on Wednesday placed the Hyderabad city on high alert as moderate rains continued and the weather office warned of heavier downpours from evening.
After inspecting the control room at GHMC head office, Karnan reviewed complaints received through the mobile application, control room, and media channels. He said field teams were responding immediately to public reports.

The commissioner advised residents to avoid leaving home unless necessary. He cancelled staff leave and ordered senior officials to remain at headquarters. Deputy commissioners and local tahsildars were assigned to oversee relief work in their jurisdictions.
Karnan said protective measures had been taken along stormwater drains. He warned that manholes must not be opened under any circumstances and urged citizens to report any such issue directly to the control room.
He directed teams to focus on traffic choke points and coordinate with police and the Hyderabad Traffic Department to prevent congestion. Flood safety works near nalas were inspected to ensure water flow was unobstructed.
“Public safety is our priority,” Karnan said, stressing that the GHMC was fully mobilised for rapid response during the rain spell.
