Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan on Monday issued strict directions to all zonal and deputy commissioners, reiterating that manual scavenging in drains would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Mechanized sanitation only
The Commissioner stressed that sanitation work must be carried out exclusively through mechanized methods and under safe working conditions. He instructed that garbage clearance and GVP operations be closely monitored at the zonal and division levels.
Dedicated sanitation teams
Karnan ordered the creation of separate sanitation management teams in every zone to improve efficiency and ensure worker safety. He made it clear that accountability will rest with zonal and deputy commissioners for any lapses.
Warning of strict action
Reiterating GHMC’s commitment to public health and worker welfare, Karnan warned that serious action would follow any violation of these guidelines. “Sanitation must meet safety standards, and there will be zero tolerance for negligence,” he said.
