Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan on Thursday instructed civic and water board officials to permanently resolve the drainage problems affecting Durgam Cheruvu.
During a site inspection with zonal officials, Water Board engineers, and Lake division staff, Karnan stressed the need for timely and proper maintenance of the sewage pipeline. He ordered fast-tracking of pipeline diversion works and directed the Water Board to manage the sewer line independently, ensuring that walkers are not affected.
Karnan visited the sewage treatment plant at the lake and reviewed its functioning. He told officials to test treated water through both third-party labs and the NEERI institute to ensure compliance with standards.
To enhance the lake’s surroundings, he asked CSR partners to coordinate and consolidate park-related infrastructure. He also reviewed the storm water drain project being implemented under the SNDP scheme and instructed officials to finish the works by September.
He directed the zonal commissioner to monitor progress weekly and remove any hurdles to meet the timeline.
The inspection was attended by Serilingampally Zonal Commissioner Sahadev Keshav Patil, SNDP Chief Engineer Koteshwar Rao, Water Board staff, Lake Division Executive Engineer Narayana, and deputy commissioners.
