Hyderabad: The GHMC evacuates 55 residents from flood-prone areas under Shivaji Bridge and near Bhoo Laxmi temple on Thursday after water was released from Hyderabad’s twin reservoirs, Himayatsagar and Osmansagar.
Residents shifted to relief camp
The evacuees, including families and daily wage workers, were moved to the Gode-ki-khabar GHMC community hall. Authorities arranged temporary shelter, food, and medical support at the relief camp.
Reservoirs release surplus water
With heavy rains lashing Hyderabad and its outskirts, inflows into both reservoirs increased sharply. To prevent flooding along the Musi River, officials lifted reservoir gates and released surplus water. The precaution led to timely evacuation of vulnerable households.
Commissioner monitors operations
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan personally monitored the evacuation and instructed staff to stay on high alert. He stressed the importance of quick response to avoid casualties.
The civic body urged people in low-lying areas to stay alert and cooperate with officials to ensure safety during the ongoing rains.
