Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has completed all preparations for a smooth and eco-friendly Ganesh idol immersion, Commissioner R.V. Karnan announced on Monday.
After inspecting major immersion points such as People’s Plaza, Sunrise Point, Lake View Park, Batukamma Kunta, and Sanjeevaiah Park Baby Pond, Karnan confirmed that key facilities are in place. He was accompanied by Additional Commissioner Raghu Prasad.
GHMC has arranged 72 artificial ponds and prepared 20 major lakes for the immersion. Officials set up 134 static cranes and 259 mobile cranes at different locations. At Hussain Sagar, nine boats, Disaster Response Force teams, and 200 trained swimmers are ready, with support from the Tourism Department and city police.
The city now has 13 control rooms for managing the event. To help with safe and timely idol immersions, GHMC deployed 160 Ganesh Action Teams along the 303.3-km main procession routes. A total of 14,486 sanitation workers will operate in three shifts.
Since the start of the festival, GHMC has removed 3,000 metric tonnes of waste using 125 JCBs and 102 mini-tippers. The corporation also placed 39 mobile toilets near key immersion points.
Along the procession routes, 56,187 lighting units have been installed. GHMC has also set up seven medical camps with ambulance support. As part of road safety efforts, the civic body repaired more than 90% of potholes. The remaining road damage is being addressed by the Engineering Department.
Karnan urged organisers to bring idols to the immersion spots on schedule. He also asked the public to follow official instructions to help ensure a safe and orderly celebration.
