Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan on Tuesday launched the GHMC Maitrivanam drain remodeling plan to reduce flood risks during the rainy season and protect both residents and public property.
During his visit to Maitrivanam, Karnan joined Khairatabad Zonal Commissioner Anurag Jayanti, Chief Engineer Sahadev Ratnakar, and a team of consultants to review the condition of the local stormwater drain. They found serious blockages disrupting the flow of water and discussed steps to fix the problem quickly.
Karnan asked the engineering team to create a clear and simple proposal for the GHMC Maitrivanam drain remodeling plan. He told them to act fast—remove the current blockages while preparing a permanent redesign of the drain. “Rainwater must flow freely to prevent danger to people and damage to homes,” he said.
He also told officials to work together across departments and inspect the site regularly throughout the monsoon. He asked engineers to think about the safety of low-lying areas and use practical designs while preparing the new plan.
The Commissioner urged the team to give this work top priority and begin the remodeling process without delay. The GHMC Maitrivanam drain remodeling plan is part of the city’s larger effort to improve flood control and upgrade key drains for future weather challenges.
