Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a special initiative to tackle the mosquito menace across the city. The corporation has identified the rapid growth of horse weed along both banks of the Musi River as a major contributor to the surge in mosquito populations.
To address this, GHMC has started removing the horse weed extensively from the Attapur Division to Malakpet with the help of Hitachi machines. Through this comprehensive plan, the corporation aims to protect the city from a mosquito infestation.
In addition to weed removal, GHMC is deploying drones to spray anti-larval chemicals at stagnant water locations, aiming to provide a long-term solution to the problem. This operation, initiated in the Attapur area, is being monitored daily by Deputy Commissioner of the Second Balaji Section, Namala Srinivas.
Officials are identifying areas where water has stagnated and are applying anti-larval chemicals to prevent mosquito breeding.
Following a sharp rise in mosquito activity and the spread of mosquito-borne diseases in the Musi River catchment areas, numerous public complaints prompted GHMC to intensify these efforts. Officials stated that these health-focused measures are being implemented effectively.
GHMC has also appealed to residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and cooperate with the mosquito control initiatives.
