Hyderabad: Flood levels in the Godavari surged to 38.50 feet at Bhadrachalam by 10 p.m. Friday, up from 33.30 feet recorded earlier in the day, as the Central Water Commission warned of a continued rise through the night.

At Dummugudem headworks, the flood level touched 18 feet, fully submerging the Sitaamma Nara Cheeral zone in Parnasala. Officials have issued warnings to residents in low-lying areas.

Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police Rohith Raj conducted inspections near the VISTA Complex and temple embankment Friday evening. He ordered reinforcement of the bund and mandated round-the-clock updates to senior officers. Locals were advised to stay away from the riverbanks. ASP Vikrant Kumar Singh and ASIs Tirupati, Swapna, and Shravan Kumar have been placed on high alert.

Boat shikaras at Parnasala were suspended after hourly rises of a foot at Dummugudem led to inundation of the Nara Cheeral zone. Pilgrims heading to Sita Vagu were turned back before entering the submerged area, said temple secretary Srinivas Rao.

Upstream rainfall in Maharashtra has pushed up inflows into the Pranhita and Godavari rivers. Officials in Jayashankar-Bhupalpally and Mulugu have cautioned fishermen against entering river zones. Mulugu SP Shabeer Sh confirmed the closure of the Take l gudem bridge on NH-163, which connects Hyderabad to Bhupalpally.

Floodwaters continue to move downstream through the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs. In the Nirmal district, gates of the Kadam project were opened. A breach was reported at the Mattadi Vagu project in Adilabad’s Tamsi mandal. Kumram-Bheem project gates in Asifabad were lifted as the surrounding fields in Motlagudem, Rampur, and Digadal of Dahegaon mandal remained waterlogged. MPDO Albert surveyed the damage.

The Adilabad Kumram-Bheem project has released 4.3 TMC of water via three gates. Karnataka’s heavy rains are maintaining flows into Jurala and Tungabhadra reservoirs. Jurala inflows stand at 109,000 cusecs, with 67,250 cusecs discharged through 10 open gates. Tungabhadra dam is receiving 43,091 cusecs and releasing 34,351 cusecs.

RDS anicuts are managing 45,982 cusecs, with a main canal discharge of 595 cusecs. The Sunkesula barrage is handling 45,387 cusecs. RDS storage is at 10.9 feet. At Srisailam, three crest gates remain open, releasing 81,333 cusecs into Nagarjunasagar.
