Hyderabad: Officials at the Dhavaleswaram barrage opened all gates on Thursday, releasing over 12 lakh cusecs of Godavari floodwater into the Bay of Bengal. Heavy inflows from upstream had already filled reservoirs across Telangana.
At Kaleswaram, authorities opened 85 gates to release 9,89,620 cusecs. At Sammakka Sagar Barrage, they lifted 59 gates to let out 11,12,170 cusecs downstream.
Godavari floods trigger alerts
The cascading outflows raised flood levels at Bhadrachalam, where the river touched 50.3 feet. Authorities declared the second warning as inflows kept rising.
With discharge mounting, fisheries officials warned fishermen to avoid the Godavari River and the coastal belt.
