HYDERABAD: State Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced on Sunday that Godavari waters will be supplied to the residents of Sathupalli and Vemsoor mandals by June. Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new palm oil factory in Kalluru Gudam village, Vemsoor mandal, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to completing this project despite financial challenges and limited support from the central government.
The minister highlighted that, as part of the implementation of six guarantees, the state government has credited ₹33 crore into farmers’ accounts to address agricultural hardships. He also mentioned that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is working towards introducing crop insurance to protect farmers from potential losses, reinforcing the Congress party’s pro-farmer stance.
Addressing concerns about counterfeit palm oil saplings, Minister Tummala instructed officials to identify and halt such instances at the nursery level. He cited a recent case in Yathalakunta where fake saplings were detected, leading to negotiations for compensation from the supplying company.
The minister announced plans to provide a support price of ₹21,000 per quintal for palm oil farmers and set a target of cultivating palm oil across 2 million acres over the next decade. He assured that discussions with the central government are underway to secure minimum support prices for palm oil cultivation in southern states.
Furthermore, Minister Tummala stated that the Greenfield Highway construction would be completed by the upcoming Independence Day, which is expected to drive comprehensive development in Khammam district. He expressed his dedication to transforming Khammam into a model district that garners statewide attention.
