HYDERABAD: A post by the Earthquake Research Analysis Centre predicting a possible earthquake centred around Godavarikhani has gone viral, triggering widespread concern across Telangana and neighbouring regions.
According to the post, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter), a tremor of magnitude 5 on the Richter scale is likely to occur between Thursday and the 17th of this month. The post claims the impact could extend beyond Godavarikhani to surrounding areas, including Warangal, Hyderabad, parts of Andhra Pradesh such as Amaravati, and even into Maharashtra.
Following the viral post, anxiety has gripped residents across Peddapalli district, with discussions intensifying over the possibility of seismic activity.
Public concern has been amplified by the recent devastation caused by earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand, which many people still vividly recall.
However, no official government agencies have confirmed the prediction issued by the Earthquake Research Analysis Centre.
Experts point out that India is divided into seismic zones—Zone 2, Zone 3, Zone 4, and Zone 5—based on earthquake risk levels. Zone 5 represents the highest risk, where quakes tend to be more intense and damaging.
Authorities are yet to respond officially, and the public is advised to stay informed through credible and verified sources.
