Hyderabad, February 4: Government Whip Aadi Srinivas has criticised the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) over its stance on the BC caste census, questioning the party’s commitment to the welfare of Backward Classes. Speaking to the media after the Telangana Assembly session, he pointed out that the previous BRS government conducted a one-day survey but failed to release a comprehensive report.
Srinivas accused the BRS of reducing BC reservations in local bodies from 34% to 29% during its tenure, arguing that its recent advocacy for a caste census contradicts its past actions. He also pointed to discrepancies in BC population estimates, stating that while the BRS claims it to be 51%, his party’s data suggests it is 56%.
He further emphasised the need for transparent discussions in the Assembly, alleging that the BRS often made unilateral decisions without wider consultation. Srinivas maintained that the current government is focused on ensuring fair representation for BCs and will continue to push for inclusive policies.
