Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Monday launched a surgical health camp for Divyangjan at Raj Bhavan’s Samskruti Community Hall. The camp provides free surgeries, diagnostic tests, eye screenings, and spectacles for persons with disabilities.
The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Hyderabad Branch, organized the initiative. It partnered with the Disable Foundation Trust, Dr. Naari Charitable Trust, Agarwal Seva Dal, Ravi Helios Hospital, Pitti Trust, and other supporting organisations.
The Governor said the camp reflected “compassion, collaboration, and social responsibility.” He commended doctors, volunteers, and civil society groups for their joint efforts to improve healthcare access.
He also praised the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act passed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. The law expanded the list of recognized disabilities from seven to twenty-one, including acid attack survivors.
Furthermore, he highlighted Raj Bhavan’s Governor’s Excellence Awards. A new category for Divyangjan was added this year. Paralympian Jeevanji Deepthi and the Aditya Mehta Foundation received awards for their work in promoting inclusion.
Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Laxman Kumar Adluri also attended the event. He assured Divyang government employees that requests for compassionate transfers would receive due attention. Moreover, he said the government was focusing on barrier-free infrastructure, skills training, and job opportunities.
Chevella MLA Kale Yadaiah, Hyderabad Collector Hari Chandana, and senior officials from IRCS and the Governor’s office joined the event.
