Hyderabad: Governor marks Sanskrit Day at Raj Bhavan with a gathering of scholars, academicians, and students from Gurukulams. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma addressed the celebrations at Samskruti, the Raj Bhavan Community Hall, on Monday in collaboration with the Sanskrit Academy.
Calling Sanskrit the soul of the nation, he praised its purity, universality, and enduring contribution to global knowledge. He noted that the language has shaped Indian art, philosophy, sciences, medicine, literature, and governance for millennia.
The Governor said Sanskrit continues to influence modern fields such as artificial intelligence and coding. Paying tribute to Panini, Acharya Kanada, Bhaskaracharya, Brahmagupta, and Kautilya, he described its precision as a guiding force for seekers of knowledge.
Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, he called Sanskrit a “vital bridge between India’s glorious past and limitless future.” He urged youth to see it as a loka bhasha a people’s language capable of guiding society towards wisdom, compassion, and resolve.
The programme featured cultural performances:
Bhagavad Gita recitation by Amruta Vidyalaya, Secunderabad, and Jiva Gurukulam, Kukatpally
Ashtadhyayi recitation by Dayananda Gurukulam, Hyderabad
Paanineeya Shiksha recitation by Vedapatashala, Jubilee Hills
The Governor congratulated Sanskrit Academy Director Prof. Penna Madhusudan for promoting the language and thanked the organising team. Dignitaries included Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram, former Sanskrit Academy Director Prof. K. Neelakantham, Joint Secretary to the Governor J. Bhavani Shankar, and senior Raj Bhavan officials.
