Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Tuesday inaugurated the 7th All India Prison Duty Meet at the RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy. He described the event as a platform to promote correctional professionalism, reformative justice, and unity across institutions.
The four-day event has drawn over 1,200 prison staff from 21 States and three Union Territories. This is the first time in ten years that Telangana is hosting the national meet.
The Governor called the meet a “festival of discipline, dedication, and comradeship.” He said it strengthens the spirit of “One Nation, One Service” among correctional staff.
The programme features sports competitions, cultural events, and a Technology Expo. The Expo showcases advances in prison security, vocational training, and inmate welfare.
Governor hails Telangana’s reforms at All India Prison Duty Meet
Praising Telangana’s reform efforts, the Governor recalled the early release of 231 prisoners on Republic Day 2024. The releases included both life-term and short-term convicts and were based on good behavior.
He said the government supported released prisoners with jobs at prison-run fuel stations. Women were provided sewing machines to earn a living. “This model proves reformation is not just a slogan, but real policy,” he said.
He also mentioned new staff posts at Sangareddy and Nizamabad Central Prisons. A modern district jail in Siddipet is now ready for use.
The Governor wished all participants success and said the meet would mark a key moment in India’s prison reform journey.
