Hyderabad: Telangana Minority Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar said on Sunday that the state government’s allocation of graveyard land to Muslims is a direct expression of respect for their religious identity. He stated that the Revanth Reddy-led government upholds religious dignity not only in life but also in death.
Speaking at a meeting in Rahmatnagar, Jubilee Hills, the minister unveiled government orders for graveyard land allotments alongside Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, Gaddam Vivek, Minority Advisor Mohammad Ali Shabbir, and community leaders. The event marked a major milestone for long-pending demands.
Adluri said that graveyard issues were neglected for decades. The Congress government resolved them by coordinating with district collectors and HMDA to overcome legal and spatial constraints in Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Golconda, and Sheikhpet.
Congress affirms minority trust through graveyard land allotments
He explained that the government will modernise existing graveyards with drainage, lighting, roads, water supply, and boundary walls. Special funds have been sanctioned, and at least one burial site will be developed in every constituency.
According to the minister, this initiative reflects the Congress party’s secular values and its firm stance on minority rights. “Under Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, we are committed to social justice,” he said.
Adluri added that minority issues were ignored during the previous TRS government. In contrast, the Congress took swift action, including the appointment of chairpersons for six minority corporations. He said these decisions prove the party’s sincerity.
He further noted that surveys of graveyard lands and Waqf sites were being expedited, with protection measures in progress. The government, he added, aims to make Jubilee Hills a model constituency with large-scale development projects.
Urging Muslim voters in Jubilee Hills to support Congress, he said, “Indiramma’s government stood by minorities, and the present one will honour that legacy.”
