Death toll rises to 17 in Gulzar Houz fire near Charminar

Hyderabad: Seventeen people are now confirmed dead in the fire that broke out early Sunday morning at Gulzar Houz in the Mirchowk area, near Charminar.

Flames erupted from the first floor of the building before dawn. Fire crews arrived swiftly and managed to douse the blaze, but not before tragedy struck. Three died on the spot. The rest succumbed while undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

The injured were shifted to Malakpet Yashoda, Hyderguda Apollo, DRDL Apollo, Osmania General, and Nampally CARE hospitals. Several remain in critical condition.

Among the deceased are Arushi Jain (17), Sheetal Jain (37), Sumitra (65), Munnibai (72), Pratham (13), Abhishek Modi (30), Rajendra Kumar (67), Iraj (2), Priyanshi (6), Harshali Gupta (7), Idikki (4), Anya (3), Pankaj (36), Varsha (35), Rajani Agarwal (32), Rishabh (4), and Preetam Agarwal (1).
